Richard Kind, a Drama Desk Award winner and Tony nominee, is an accomplished stage, screen, and television actor who continues to redefine the art of the character actor.

Kind is known for his distinctive voice, comedic timing, and versatility across television, film, and theater. Born on November 22, 1956, in Trenton, New Jersey, to a Jewish family, Kind was raised with strong cultural and religious influences that shaped his humor and storytelling. He attended Northwestern University, where he developed his passion for acting and improvisation, later becoming a key figure in the Chicago improv scene alongside future comedy greats.

Kind is best known for his comedic television roles, particularly as the lovable yet neurotic Paul Lassiter on Spin City and the well-meaning but bumbling Andy Mislawsky in Mad About You. His talent for playing endearing, slightly exasperated characters has made him a favorite among audiences. He also had a memorable role as the eccentric Cousin Andy in Curb Your Enthusiasm, showcasing his natural comedic instincts.

Beyond television, Kind has worked extensively in film and voice acting. He appeared in the Coen Brothers’ A Serious Man (2009), a darkly comedic film deeply rooted in Jewish culture and existential dilemmas. His voice work includes roles in A Bug’s Life (1998), Cars (2006), and the unforgettable Bing Bong in Pixar’s Inside Out (2015). His warm, expressive voice and ability to bring humor and depth to animated characters have made him a sought-after voice actor.

A frequent collaborator with comedy legends like Larry David and Billy Crystal, Kind’s career reflects a deep connection to Jewish humor, which often blends wit and a keen observation of life’s absurdities. Whether in sitcoms, animated films, or on Broadway, Richard Kind remains a beloved figure in entertainment, bringing laughter and heart to every role he takes on.

Steven Friedman, a DC native and internationally recognized Broadway musical historian will moderate the conversation with Richard Kind.

Friedman has shared his passion for Broadway and entertainment with audiences around the globe. As the author of the Amazon best-selling The Ultimate Broadway Musical List Book, he captivates readers with his engaging writing, wit, and deep knowledge of Broadway’s rich history.

In addition to his regular speaking engagements and literary work, Steven serves as an adjunct faculty member at Johns Hopkins University, where he lectures on pop culture. He has performed at prestigious venues such as the Kennedy Center and has been a soloist for 35 years in various choirs.

A resident of the Washington, DC metropolitan area, Steven lives with his high school sweetheart. He is also a proud father of two grown sons—both performers—and a grandfather of five.
