Unpacking Tisha B'Av: A Journey of Reflection, Discovery and Renewal

Presented by Rabbi Lauren Tuchman

Join us for an enlightening lecture delving into the religious and spiritual significance of Tisha b'Av. We will embark on a journey of reflection, discovery, and renewal, exploring Tisha b'Av and its enduring relevance in our post-October 7th reality.

Traditionally, Tisha b'Av is a day of mourning and introspection, commemorating the destruction of the First and Second Temples in Jerusalem and other tragedies throughout Jewish history.

Our exploration will center around the third haftarah of Tochecha, read on the Shabbat preceding Tisha b'Av. We will navigate these profound texts, examining their historical context and unpacking their timeless messages. And, we will ponder the role of Tisha b'Av in shaping our religious identity and understanding of self.

Moreover, given our contemporary challenges and tragedies, our discussion will be fluid and responsive as we engage with a wealth of new commentary and perspectives on the ever-evolving challenging situations in Israel and in the diaspora.
